Bread Route
Moves surplus restaurant food to church pantries the same night it is made.
ESTABLISHED · Running for years with a track record behind it.
WHAT IT DOES
Restaurants post what is left at close, drivers claim a route, and a pantry gets the food before it turns. Nine cities so far, with the routing built around volunteer drivers rather than paid fleets.
Same-night delivery is the hard part and they solved it without a warehouse.
WHY IT IS LISTED · OUR NOTEWHO RUNS IT
Eleven staff, several hundred volunteer drivers, run out of a church basement in its first two years.
HOW IT IS FUNDED
Donor funded. Free for pantries and restaurants; no fee at any point in the chain.
